The Graduate Student Association is involved with various outreach and community service programs, both on campus and in the greater Houston area. By working with service organizations on campus, we strive to get graduate students and undergraduates working together to make a difference.

Community Service Committee

If you are interested in volunteering or in serving on the Community Service Committee please contact the GSA Community Service Chair, Emily Day. Additionally, please contact Emily or the GSA Secretary if you would like to make an announcement about a service opportunity.

Student Engineers Educating Kids
Habitat for Humanity
Rice Student Volunteers Program
CBEN Student Leadership Council

Funding available for graduate student service projects:
The GSA has allocated funds to provide organizations/students with ideas for service activities. All Rice graduate students, undergraduate students, faculty, staff and campus organization may submit proposals for funding. To receive funding, events must be open to participation by graduate students.  The maximum value of any award will be five hundred dollars ($500) and the number of awards will be left to the discretion of the Community Service Committee. Please contact the Community Service Chair if you would like more information.

Proposal submission and review process:
1. Submit proposal to the Community Service Committee via the online form.
2. Answer questions/concerns from the Community Service Committee.
3. Community Service Committee will notify the applicant of grant approval/denial
within one month of the application.
4. Upon approval, funding will be provided on a reimbursement basis pending
GSA receive the following:
a) A post-event evaluation to be reviewed by the Community Service
Committee.
b) Orginal receipts and invoices for services/fees paid.
