GSA Reps Meeting - July 18, 2006
- Graduate Alumni Committee (GAC) – Purvez Captain
- The alumni committee has become a formal organization within the last 4 years.
- Want to get departments more responsive to events
- Graduate lounge: have been working on getting for 10 years.
- Wish List: what money can we get from Rice/Alumni.
- Let GAC know of any problems with administration or faculty, etc.
- Last year, worked on insurance, health center hours
- What activities do we want? (looking for jobs, etc)
- Building database of emails for all graduate alumni.
- Do mailouts for Orientation pizza party and Beer Bike
- Do we need an amendment for MLS students to join GSA? Cristina Hofmann
- 60 students
- need to pay $10 GSA fee
- constitution says need to be a full time student
- don’t have enough Reps to vote for amending the Constitution; will bring up again at next meeting
- GSA Olympics. Friday July 28th, 5:30-7:15pm. Nikhil Gheewala and Amber Raley
- In replacement of a TG, because no departments volunteered
- If raining, will postpone for a week
- Ask professors to be judges?
- Take pictures: Jordan, Kristjan, and April
- Update – GSA Lounge: should be open in Fall
- Band suggestions for Fall Picnic, September 22nd: email Jordan. Budget = $1000
- Update: Orientation committee. Mike Contreras
- Everything going well
- Leaders go over Orientation packet and lead scavenger hunt. Reps required to do it; if can’t, must get replacement.
- Orientation booklet: send grad pictures to Jordan. Pics due by end of week.
- Orientation Leaders: passed around Contact Info sheet
- New 13th Street and Student Center hours. Jordan Miller
- Update: Gym Hours. Jordan Miller
- Request for extended gym hours: no one wants to work at the gym. Keep pushing for extended hours.
- Statistics Department, proposal for funding. Sarah Thomas.
- Statistics orientation
- Will bring it up at next officers meeting and again at next reps meeting
