GSA Reps Meeting

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

  1. Congrats on excellent TG on the 9th (Earth Science, History, Psychology, English)
  2. Next TG …? 
    1. No volunteers
  3. Update - GSA Lounge - Jordan Miller
    1. GAC has fund.  Wrote proposal ($1000 TV, $500 foosball table)
  4. Update - Hedgehopper Silver Saver Cards - Jordan Miller
    1. Offering us $200 worth of cards (how many cards?)
    2. Better idea:  advertise showing student ID, and asking places whether they give discounts to Rice students or not.
    3. Our offer:  500 or more cards for $200.  Reorganize for next year.
  5. Update - Orientation Committee - Mike Contreras
    1. All reps will participate as group leaders (Orientation is on August 23rd)
    2. Need help with new student resource guide (have an undergrad version; needs to be tailored toward graduate students).  School is paying for the printing.  Rochelle Evans (Psych) volunteered to help.
  6. Watch Baseball game @ Valhalla on Thursday night - no volunteers needed!
  7. Rec Center – Nasos
    1. During the summer, closes at 8:30pm (doors close at 8pm)
    2. Talk to administration to extend to 10pm on week nights
    3. Compared to other universities (in same strata), close at 10pm or later
    4. How much more would it cost? (Monday – Thursday)
    5. Set up survey at gym?
    6. Jordan meeting with Boyd tomorrow, will find out how open to it they are.
    7. Why do they close in August?  Is it something that happens at other universities?
    8. If we are given a trial period, will need to make sure to advertise to departments.  *Post sign at gym*. Other possibility:  MWF or TTh
  8. Update - Rice Wine Society - Cristina Hofmann
    1. Wine tasting 7/13 at 6PM in Farnsworth Pavillion
