GSA Reps Meeting

  1. U Court/Honor Council Positions
    1. Glenisha Wilson (Jones School) – new Honor Council rep
  2. Rice University Postdoc Association (RUPA, website: postdoc.rice.edu) – Jim Lancaster and Yong Chen
    1. Want to collaborate with the GSA (ex: Orientation)
    2. Don’t have a budget as of now
    3. 140 Postdocs on campus
    4. Joint activities? Reps asked to bring ideas for activities to subsequent meetings.
    5. Maybe could have Postdocs give advice about looking for postdoc, etc.
  3. Award Committee
    1. Call for Nominations has been sent out
    2. Need to form committee (10 people). The following people volunteered: Garret Merriam, Philip Graves, Jeff Shafer, Micah Nicolo, Priya Gupta, Elise McCarthy, Larkin Spires, David Getman, Nikhil Gheewala, and Michael Contreras.
  4. ARA/GSA Blood Drive
    1. Need volunteers (would like ~10% participation/department)
    2. Need to sign up online
  5. Club Voting: Hispanic Business Student Association – PASSED
  6. March MATCHness (Friday, March 24th): handed out flyers; will also email flyer to Reps so that they can be posted around the departments
  7. Beer Bike (Jordan and Sheila)
    1. T-shirts $10, will begin selling on Monday
    2. Schedule:
      1. 3/31. Pre-party at Valhalla (REI Kayak Rental Raffle)
      2. 4/1. 9am: Setup at Valhalla. Noon: to Track (will need shirt or wristband to get to center of track). After races: party at Valhalla (food, drinks, live band)
      3. Spring Picnic: date changed from Thursday 4/27 to Friday 4/28
  8. Meeting on Grad Space on Thursday (with Kevin Kirby)
    1. Getting 1000 ft2 of space this fall (RMC)
    2. Ideas of what to do with lounge? Ping pong table, hammocks, desk, couches, black/white boards, wireless?, fax machine, copy machine, microwave…
    3. Need to determine whether will be social/recreational area OR study/meeting area.
