The Rice Robotics Club is entering a Robot Competition Challenge: Are you interested?
The newly formed Rice Robotics Club is planning to enter the VEX Robotics College Challenge. The event will take place at the Dallas Convention Center in Dallas, TX on May 2nd, 2009. The goal of the competition is to build two robots that work together to achieve a task of stacking 3" cubes. The higher the stacks of cubes, the more points awarded to the team. There are specifications on the size of the robots which will be made primarily of VEX Robotics Kits parts. The sensors for the robot are open to off the shelf components which allow for teams to design a unique sensor for the task. One match will have two universities playing their team of robots, the winner will have stacked the most cubes in the allocated 3 minutes of time. The 1st minute will be an autonomous period where the robots will use sensors to find and stack the 3" cubes. After the autonomous period, the robots can then be tele-operated for two minutes to score additional points. The 36 universities will play random seeding matches and single elimination playoff round to determine the winner of the competition.

The Rice Robotics Club will hold its first meeting on Nov 3rd, 6PM at Duncan Hall 1044
We are asking all undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in participating to come to this first meeting. We hope that our competing team will include students from Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Electrical Engineering with different sets of skills. No prior exposure to robotics is required.
Please email to andrew.lynch@rice.edu if you plan to attend the meeting or if you would like to attend but can not make it. We need to have a rough idea of how many people to expect: pizza will be served but please bring your own drink.
You can sign up to the Robotics Club mailing list: http://robotclub.rice.edu
